Biographical History

Charles Winfield Simpson (1844-1865), a farmer from Roxbury, Mass., served first during the Civil War with the 18th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded in December 1862, at Fredericksburg, Va., and was subsequently discharged. He reenlisted and was again wounded in June 1864, after which he was transferred in October 1864 to the 32nd Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Wounded and taken prisoner at Hatcher's Run, Va., in early February 1865, Simpson was exchanged but succumbed in Annapolis, Md., on 22 February 1865.
