Members of the Allen family represented in the collection include Franklin Staples Allen, Jr., born in 1918, died in 1976, who attended the University of Oregon and the University of Virginia, and author of the World War II memoir The Martin marauder and the Franklin Allens; Louise Harford Allen, born in 1896, who was a newspaper reporter in Seattle, Wash. from 1917 to 1919; Seward D. Allen, a real estate salesman in Eugene, Or.; and Franklin Staples, born in 1833 and died in 1904, who was principal of the Boys Center Grammar School in Portland, Me., practiced as a physician in Winona, Minn., and authored medical publications.
