Biographical History

In 1683 a group of German Quakers, mainly from Frankfurt am Main, purchased a tract of 15,000 acres in Pennsylvania, on which their agent Francis Daniel Pastorius laid out the settlement of Germantown. In 1686 they reorganized on a more formal basis, after which they were generally known as the Frankfort Company.

From the description of Agreement, 1686 Nov. 12, Frankfurt am Main. (Rosenbach Museum & Library). WorldCat record id: 122541728
