First performance of revised version Contemporary Arts Festival, Urbana, Illinois, 3 March 1950, University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, John M. Kuypers conductor. The original 1942 version was written for a radio orchestra which included, as well as the 1950 orchestration, trombones and cymbals. The 1942 version was withdrawn and re-orchestrated (minus the
trombones and cymbals). A number of cuts were made and other portions were entirely reworked. The content and form of the 1950 version is substantially the same as that of the 1942 score.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
