Biographical History
"Established in April 2001 and extending the mission and activities of the University Committee on Environment, the Harvard University Center for the Environment (HUCE) provides a focus for interdisciplinary, cross-faculty research and education in the field of environmental studies at Harvard. The Center draws its strength from faculty members and students across the University and complements the environmental education and research activities of the community of scholars based in Harvard's academic units. Stewarded by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences the Center is designed to serve the Harvard community by developing and facilitating projects and activities in the areas of environmental education, research, and outreach--adding the value of an integrated, collaborative approach to traditional academic pursuits. Serving as a liaison within the University and to the outside world, the Center carries out its charge by sponsoring interdisciplinary approaches in environmental education, research, and public communication. The Center seeks to address the pressing need to provide the next generation of Harvard-educated researchers, policymakers and corporate leaders with a comprehensive interdisciplinary environmental education, and also the need to foster linkages and partnerships between different parts of the University and between the University and the world outside of it."
