Biographical History

Benjamin (Basalyga) was born in Pennsylvania and entered the priesthood in 1911. He became the first American-born bishop in the Orthodox Church as Bishop of Pittsburgh and West Virginia in 1933; he was Archbishop of Japan (1946-1953) and returned to Pittsburgh (1953-1963).
