Businessman, civic leader, and philanthropist, of Saco, Me.; b. Joseph Godfrey Deering II, son of Frank Cutter Deering and Annie Grey Wiggin Deering; manager and later president of J.G. Deering & Son which later became known as Deering Lumber Company (sold in 1958). President of York National Bank, Dyer Library Association, and Sweetser Home for Boys; treasurer of Laurel Hill Cemetery Association and served many years on Maine Parks and Recreation Commission; officer and member of many local and state organizations; donated land for parks and gave family residence to the city of Saco to house what is now the Dyer Library.
