Biographical History
The Harvard University Archives was established in 1939 as a department of the University Library during the administrations of James Bryant Conant as President and Keyes Dewitt Metcalf as Director of the Library. For a number of years prior to this date, the Library had collected and preserved historical records and other material relating to the history of the University.
These cards are the result of a project undertaken by Clark Eliot, Associate Cururator in the Harvard University Archives, in the late 1970's to early 1980's to create an index to the official records of Harvard College, the Harvard Corporation, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Harley P. Holden, Curator of the Harvard University Archives, was also director of the depository (1988-1992).
Mark Duffy was associate Curator for Records Administration and Management (1987-1992).
Readers in the Harvard University Archives are required to sign an acknowledgement of conditions governing the use of theses, dissertations, and prize papers held by the University Archives.
