Biographical History
The Review and Compliance Program in the State Historic Preservation Office was developed in response to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and Chapter 138 of the Minnesota Historic Sites Act. The Program reviews several different kinds of projects, from rehabilitation/demolition of buildings and structures to construction of new residential/commercial developments and roads. Review is mandatory for any project that is receiving federal or state funds, or has to apply for federal or state permits. These projects are submitted to SHPO by either the federal or state agency responsible for the funding/licensing or by environmental/cultural resource contractors acting on their behalf.
