Biographical History
Merric Boyd studied drawing for a term at the National Gallery School under Frederick McCubbin in 1910 and subsequently undertook a career as a sculptor and potter. He was the first person in Australia to produce hand-made pieces and is credited as the father of studio pottery for his highly acclaimed decorative household pieces that sought to "merge the technical and domestic aspects of pottery with the sculptural".
