Frank Caccamise is a professor at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at RIT in the Department of Research and Teacher Education. Frank's primary work at NTID has included development and application of sign language assessment instruments with both NTID students and faculty/staff, development of sign language instructional materials with a focus on materials for technical communication, and research on identification and follow-up for visual impairments of NTID students. Caccamise is the author of several books on sign language instruction. Additionally, he has authored children's books, written while working as an audiologist with deaf children in the early 1970s. Current interests include continued development and application of the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) and the Classroom Sign Language Assessment (a classroom observational technique) to sign language communication skills assessment and development, research on SLPI reliability and validity, training for SLPI Interviewers-Raters (including development of an SLPI training DVD), and refinement and appropriate use of a Language/Communication Background Questionnaire with NTID students.
