Yates was an English novelist, and founded THE WORLD, a weekly society newspaper in 1874.
Edmund Yates was a Victorian journalist, novelist, lecturer, comic versifier and playwright. He was a friend of Dickens, and co-founder, owner and editor of the weekly newspaper "The World."
Yates was born on July 3, 1831 in Edinburgh, Scotland; taken as an infant to London; published novels including Black sheep (1857); in 1874 with Grenville Murray, he founded and served as editor-in-chief of The world : a journal for men and women; he died on May 20, 1894 at the Savoy Hotel in London.
