Biographical History
Randolph M. Probstfield was born in Germany in 1832. He migrated to the United States as a young man and came to the Red River Valley as an agent for the Hudson Bay Company in 1858. He operated the company trading post in Shayenne City (later Georgetown), Minnesota for several years, before buying land for a farm in which is now part of Clay County. Probstfield later served in the legislature, helped develop the Moorhead Normal School, and was active for a time in the farmers' movement in the Valley. He died in 1911.
