From 1917-1923 the Museum of the American Indian sponsored Hendricks-Hodge Expedition to excavate Zuñi villages of Hawikuh and Kechipauan in New Mexico. The villages were occupied from the 14th century to 1680. Coronado first met Pueblo Indians in Hawikuh in 1540.
