Biographical History

Clement G. Clarke was pastor of the First Congregational Church, Portland, Oregon, 1923-1928.

His meddling in politics and civic matters led to his forced resignition in 1911 from his position in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He came to Peoria, Illinois shortly after and pursued the same misguided moral crusade, earning the name "Green Cheese of Peoria" and another forced resignation. When he came to Portland he again took up the crusade, prompting Portland reporters to investigate his past.
