Biographical History

Editor and writer, active in the labor and cooperative movements.

George Tichenor was born in New Orleans in 1906. After attending Tulane University and serving as a reporter on the NEW ORLEANS PICAYUNE, Tichenor became involved in the cooperative movement and served as editor of the COOPERATOR, published by the Eastern Cooperative League, from 1938 to 1948. Tichenor also served as editor of the HAT WORKER, the official paper of the Hat, Cap and Millinery Workers, and as editor for the SPOTLIGHT, the voice of the United Wire, Metal and Machine Health Welfare Fund, Local 1614 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. In addition to his work in the labor movement and the cooperative movement, Tichenor wrote numerous popular articles on a variety of subjects and published two novels, GIBSON and MANHATTAN PRODIGAL. Tichenor died in 1959.
