Biographical History
The Women's City Club of Detroit was founded in 1919. Known as the Organization Committee, the small group of women came up with a constitution and bylaws, and rented space in a building on Bagley Avenue in downtown Detroit. By 1922 plans were made for the construction of their own building at Park Avenue and Elizabeth Street, which opened two years later. The new building included a swimming pool, restaurant, lounge, library and bedrooms for members and guests. It also contained a club laundry and auditorium. The club moved out of its rented quarters in April 1924.
