Biographical History

These records trace Walworth County land ownership in both old and new LeBeau and in Scranton (also called South LeBeau). Major land owners in Old LeBeau were Antoine LeBeau, Melancton Strong & Christian Pudor, and Frank J. Boehmer & John F. Whitlock. In New LeBeau the Minneapolis & St. Louis Railway granted the land east of the railroad to thomas A. Way of the Dakota Town Lot company for development. The land west of the tracks was owned by Boehmer & Whitlock. In addition, Frank Boehmer owned a ranch near New LeBeau. Boehmer's daughter Nellie married L. Roy Houck and the land eventually passed on to the Houck family.
