Biographical History

The department was created in 1937, assuming the responsibilities of the Forestry Division, the Game and Fish Commission, the Geology Division, and the Hotel Inspection Division. New divisions for state parks and state information were added in 1939. In 1937, the department hired Paul A. Moore as photographer to serve all divisions. Other photographers were hired as work load increased. Photographs were printed in the Tennessee conservationist magazine, as well as used throughout state government in tourism brochures, annual reports, and presentations.

From the description of Department of Conservation photograph collection, 1937-1976. (Tennessee State Library & Archives). WorldCat record id: 51244246
