Biographical History
The Baby Hygiene Committee began in 1909 as the Certified Milk Fund Committee of the Association of Collegiate Alumnae (ACA). In 1910 it changed its name to the Certified Milk Fund and Baby Hygiene Committee of the Association of Collegiate Alumnae. It expanded in 1917 with the founding of the Children's Health Center, and changed its name to the Baby Hygiene Committee of the Association of Collegiate Alumnae. The Association of Collegiate Alumnae (ACA) changed its name to American Association of University Women (AAUW) in 1921, prompting a further name change, to Baby Hygiene Committee, American Association of University Women. From 1922 to 1943, it operated as a member of the Community Chest. In 1945, the Baby Hygiene Committee organized the Mother's Milk Bank as a separate entity.
