Biographical History

Robert Tyre Jones, Jr. was born March, 17, 1902 in Atlanta, Georgia. He began to play golf at a very young age. In 1916 Jones began to compete in golf tournaments as an amateur. During his 14 year career as an amateur competitor, Jones played in 52 tournaments. In 1930 Jones won the Grand Slam: the British Amateur, the British Open, the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur, in one year; the only man ever to have done so. With no more golf worlds to conquer Jones retired from competitive playing to practice law. He continued his interest in golf writing books and producing short films on the subject. Jones also amassed a large collection of books and memorabilia on golf. Jones died on December 18, 1971.
