Biographical History

Samuel A. Creelman was a native of Pennsylvania. He served as a Union soldier during the Civil War in Company A of the 101st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was captured and taken prisoner at Plymouth, North Carolina on April 20, 1864. He spent the months of May through September of 1864 at the prison camp in Andersonville, Georgia. In September of 1864 he was then moved to the prison camp at Florence, South Carolina.

After the war, Creelman settled in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He became the president of the Wilkinsburg Building and Loan Association, a justice of the peace, and an active member in the Western Pennsylvania Audubon Society. He died in 1906 in his home in Wilkinsburg from heart failure.
