Biographical History

Born in Londonderry, Nova Scotia, Harry Logan attended Vancouver High School. He went on to study classics at McGill University, graduating in 1908. He studied at St. John's College for three years (1908-1911) as a British Columbia Rhodes scholar. He taught classics at McGill University College of B.C., from 1913-1915, before his career was interrupted first to serve overseas during World War I and then to return to England to complete his M.A. Logan joined the Department of Classics at the University of British Columbia where he taught from 1920 to 1936 and from 1949 to 1968. During the intervening period he served as principal of the Prince of Wales Fairbridge Farm School on Vancouver Island (1936-1945) and then as secretary of the Fairbridge Farm Society in England (1945-1949). Logan was involved in numerous activities at UBC but is perhaps best remembered as the author of the history of the university, "Tuum Est" (1958).
