Biographical History

Anne Wallace, nee Hamilton, attended the Glasgow & West of Scotland College of Domestic Science (Incorporated), Glasgow, Scotland. She received her Group II Diploma in June 1945 which was presented by HRH Princess Elizabeth and took up a teaching post at the College in September of that year.

On the eve of D Day, June 1944, the Major of 128th Highland Field Regiment of the Royal Artillery mentioned to his mother, a governor of the Glasgow & West of Scotland College of Domestic Science (Incorporated), that his men would be forced to go overseas without a Battery flag. The girls of the Dough School, as the college was affectionately known, volunteered to make them a new flag and Anne along with another student, Miss Kathleen Goodall, worked steadily on the Battery’s silken insignia. In recognition of their work, the Battery upon their return from their overseas campaign presented the flag to the girls and the college and it was hung in the College hall. The Battery Flag is preserved in The Queen’s College, Glasgow, institutional archive.
