Historical Note

The Sacramento chapter of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs was founded in 1919 which was also the same year that the National Federation was founded. In 1924, the Sacramento Business and Professional Women's Club became part of the Northern District of California. The Northern District went as far south as Sacramento and as far north as Eureka. The purpose of the Sacramento Business and Professional Women's Club was to promote and protect the interests of local professional women in the business and industrial fields. The club advocated for legislative change concerning issues that affected working women such as the Equal Rights Amendment of 1937 and the Women's Pay Act of 1947. The club held meetings each month to plan events, discuss women's issues, and to find ways to better the community and the nation.
