Biographical History
John William (Jack) Carter is the eldest son of President and Mrs. Carter. He was born on July 3, 1947, at Portsmouth, Virginia, during President Carter's naval service in Virginia. The family returned to Plains, Georgia, in 1953 after the death of President Carter's father. Jack remained at home until he began attending university. After attending Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Georgia Southwestern, he joined the Navy. He returned to Georgia where in 1971 he married Juliette (Judy) Langford, daughter of a state senator. Jack and Judy had two children. Jason James was born August 7, 1975. Sarah Rosemary was born on December 19, 1978. Jack graduated from the University of Georgia Law School in 1975 and entered practice with his father-in-law in Calhoun, Georgia. He participated actively in the presidential campaign to assist with his father's election. He entered the grain elevator business and continued to reside in Calhoun until 1981, at which time he moved to Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago he joined Tabor Commodities, a subsidiary of Archer-McDaniels-Midland. After divorce, he married Elizabeth Brasfield.
