Biographical History

White was born in Quincy, Mass. on 9 Nov. 1821. He fitted for college under the instruction of William M. Cornell and at Phillips Exeter Academy. He graduated at Yale College in 1848, and from Harvard Law School in 1850; afterwards studying in the Boston law office of Robert Rantoul, Esq. He was admitted to the Suffolk Bar in 1851 and joined Rantoul as a partner. Upon the death of Rantoul, he formed a partnership with Asa French which lasted until 1858. In that year he was appointed judge of the probate. He also volunteered to various activities including editor of the Quincy Patriot. In 1853 he was a member of the State Constitutional Convention, and in 1857 presided at the Young Men's Convention at Worcester which nominated Nathaniel Banks for governor of Massachusetts. He married Frances Mary Edwena Noyes and had three children: George Rantoul White, Mary Hawthorne White, and Edward Noyes White.
