The School was managed by the Attorney General, Territorial Auditor, and Treasurer of the Territory. In 1899 a legislative act changed the name to the Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb and established a board of trustees to manage the Asylum (1899 Laws of N.M., Chp. 42, Sec. 1-2). In 1955 a legislative act changed the name to the School for the Deaf (1955 Laws of N.M., Chp. 63, Sec. 1). The School provides special education for deaf and hard-of-hearing children at the elementary and secondary school level. It is located in Santa Fe.
