Biographical History
The Miami Valley Atomic Energy Show titled "Living with Atomic Energy", was the work of Miamisburg Community Civic Association who approached both the Monsanto Chemical Company and U.S. Atomic Energy Commission to create exhibits to explain the development, tools, and use of atomic energy. The local Mound Laboratory Division, which was the Central Research Department for the Monsanto Chemical Company, used its resources and scientists to design and staff the exhibits. This show, the first of its kind, was geared towards the public and was developed to make atomic energy easily understood by all. Those involved in the project had no previous experience in designing exhibits or making atomic energy clear to the general public, but with only 5-weeks of preparation the show was successfully presented to the public.
The event was held in the Miamisburg High School auditorium and gymnasium from April 29- May 1, 1948. Through the use of specially designed exhibits and lectures the public received an education on atomic energy from those practicing in the field. Included in the collection are biographical sketches of some of the influential men working on the show: Malcom M. Haring, Carroll A. Hochwalt, Harold P. Knauss, Phillip E. Ohmart, R. G. Olt, J. H. Payne and Robert Arthur Staniforth.
