Biographical History
Alice Harriman, teacher, author and publisher, was born in Newport, Maine on March 12, 1861. From 1897 to 1902, she traveled for Northwest magazine and wrote articles regarding her travels. In 1907, while living in Seattle, she established the publishing company The Alice Harriman Company, making her the first woman publisher in the United States. She wrote and published several books, sometimes using the pseudonym John Ryce. Harriman was working on this manuscript when she died in Hollywood in December 1925.
