Biographical History

The National Emergency Council was established by Executive Order 6433A on November 17, 1933 to coordinate the work of various field agencies established under New Deal legislation. It was abolished on September 16, 1937.

The National Emergency Council was created by Executive Order No. 6433-A, November 17, 1933.

The functions of the Council included coordinating interagency problems of organization and activity of Federal agencies, coordinating the work of Federal Government field agencies, cooperating with any Federal agencies in performing such activities as the President directed, and servingin an advisory capacity to the President and the Executive Director of the National Emergency Council.
