Biographical History
James Creese served as president of Drexel University from 1945 to 1963. Born in Leedsdale, Pa., in 1896, he earned degrees from Princeton University and served in army during the First World War before becoming general secretary of the American-Scandinavian Foundation. In 1928 he became president and treasurer of the Stevens Institute of Technology. As Drexel's president, Dr. Creese presided over unprecedented growth in the department of engineering. He was also known as an outspoken opponent of the loyalty oaths instituted during the 1950s. Dr. Creese retired in 1963 and died in 1966 in Princeton, N.J.
James Creese was a member of the Princeton Class of 1918. He went on to become vice-president of Stevens Institute of Technology, and later president of the Drexel Institute of Technology.
