Biographical History
Born 1872. Joined the 13th U.S. Infantry in 1898 and served with that unit in the Philippines until 1902. Returned to the U.S. and became post prison officer at Alcatraz, 1902. Became professor of military science and tactics at Kansas State Agricultural College, Manhattan, Kan., 1903-04. Promoted to captain and assigned to the 25th Infantry stationed in the Philippines, 1904-09. Returned to the U.S. with the 25th Infantry which was stationed at Fort Lawton, Wash. Became commander of Co. C, 19th Infantry in 1912 and for a short period of time was stationed on the Texas coast before being sent to the Philippines in 1913.
Returned to the U.S. in 1916 and assigned as company commander in the 6th Infantry on border patrol in El Paso, Tex. Promoted to major in 1916 and became a battalion commander in the 6th Infantry. Promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1917 and became commander of the 347th during its service in France during World War I. In 1919 established a U.S. Army recruiting station for the state of West Virginia in Huntington. In 1920 became a professor of military science and tactics at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. In 1927, started a four-year tour of duty as senior instructor of the Iowa National Guard. Retired in 1931. Died in 1957.
