Biographical History

Major General (MG) Paul F. Yount was acting chief of transportation, U.S. Army, in June 1953. Yount received the Army Distinguished Service Medal with two bronze Oak Leaf Clusters for his service during World War II and the Cold War.

Paul Frailey Yount (1908-1984) was born in Alliance, Ohio. He was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers from West Point in 1930, and received his C.E. from Cornell University in 1933. Yount was a member of the United States Military Mission to Iran in 1941 and 1942. He served as Commanding office of Base Sector, Services Supply in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations in 1942. Yount was promoted to brigadier general in May 1944 and served as Commanding general of the military railway in India the same year. He was Commander of Advance Sector, Services Supply in the India Burma Theater of Operations from 1944 to 1945. He retired from the military in 1959 and received three Distinguished Service medals and two Legion of Merit awards. He died on November 28, 1984.
