James T. and Sarah Worthington were children of Thomas and Eleanor Worthington. Sarah married Edward King, son of U.S. statesman, Rufus King, and their son, also named Rufus King, became a prominent lawyer in Cincinnati.
Thomas Worthington was born in 1773 to Robert Worthington near the present Charles Town, West Virginia. He married Eleanor Swearingen in Virginia in 1796. Together they had ten children, including Mary, Sarah, James T. (1802-1881), and Albert, the four eldest. He came to Chillicothe, Ohio in 1797, engaging in farming and other business, and served Ohio as a legislator, governor, and U.S. senator.
