Biographical History

Robie Mayhew Macauley (1919-1995) was educated at Kenyon College, Iowa State University and the University of London. During and after World War II he served as an agent for the Counter-intelligence Corps in Europe and Japan. Some of the material for his short stories was based on his experience in intelligence work. Macauley taught at Bard College and the University of Iowa before coming to the Woman's College (UNCG) in 1950. In August 1953 he resigned from his teaching position, moving on to editorships at the Kenyon review, Playboy, and Houghton, Mifflin.
