Biographical History

Edwin Minor Day (b. 1903, Greensburg, Pennsylvania-d. July 7, 1989), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from flying school and received his commission in the Air Corps in 1929. Among his early assignments were those with the 25th Bomb Squadron and 44th Observation Squadron, Panama Canal Zone, 778th Pursuit Squadron, and as a flying instructor. During World War II, he served as assistant director of training of the Army Air Force Gulf Coast Training Command, as commander of the VI Bomber Command in the Canal Zone, and as commander of the Laredo Army Air Field in Texas. Following the War, he was chief of staff of the Flying Division of Air Training Command, graduated from the National War College, and was commander of the 32nd Composite Wing and Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa. He later served as commander of Dhahran Air Field, Saudi Arabia, and acting chief of the Military Assistance Advisory Group in that country. In September 1952, he became commanding general of the Air Photographic and Charting Service at Philadelphia, and in December 1952, moved with it to Orlando Air Force Base, Florida.
