Biographical History
The Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad began construction in the Miami Valley in 1846. The railroad was originally constructed to connect Cincinnati and Hamilton, Ohio but was soon stretched onward to Dayton. By the end of the nineteenth-century the company controlled over 640 miles of track. In 1917 the railroad was acquisitioned by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.
The compiler of the collection, S.S.L'Hommedieu who was elected the second president of the company in 1848. L'Hommedieu also was a delegate from the First District of Ohio to the first Whig party convention in 1848.
