Biographical History
The Indiana Council of Churches is an interdenominational Christian education organization. Its predecessor, the Indiana Sabbath School Union, founded ca. 1826, grew out of the Sunday school movement. The organization underwent several more name changes before it took its current name in 1943: Indiana Sunday School Union (1888-1901); Indiana Sunday School Association (1901-1922); Indiana Council of Religious Education (1922-1934); and the Indiana Council of Christian Education (1934-1943).
