Murphree, Albert Alexander, 1908-

Albert Alexander Murphree, known to friends and colleagues as "Waddy", was the son of University of Florida President A. A. Murphree. He served on the faculty of the Department of English for over four decades. Murphree graduated from Florida in 1929 with an A. B. As a Rhodes scholar, he continued his studies at Oxford University where, in 1933, he received the degree of M.A. Oxon. The following year Murphree returned to Florida as a member of the English faculty with the rank of Instructor. He was responsible for lower-division courses in rhetoric and composition. Soon afterwards, he enrolled at John Hopkins to pursue additional graduate work. He returned, again, to the University of Florida in 1941, this time as an associate professor. He taught upper-division classes that focused on the themes and theatrical devices common to European drama.

Albert Alexander Murphree was the son of University of Florida president A.A. Murphree. The younger Murphree served on the faculty of Florida's English Dept. for four decades. He taught classes that focused on the themes and theatrical devices common in European drama.
