Biographical History

Onondaga Pottery Company was founded in 1871 in Geddes (now part of Syracuse), New York. Although the company's early focus was on producing sturdy commercial wares, especially for hotel restaurants and railroad dining cars, it also made finer wares for home use. Onondaga Pottery had the industry's first in-house lithography shop to make decals to use in decorating the china. In 1966, the company name was changed to Syracuse China Company (and later to Corporation). Still in business, it is one of the world's largest suppliers of commercial tableware.

From the description of Syracuse china designs, ca.1929. (Winterthur Library). WorldCat record id: 463296549
