Biographical History

During this time, Thomas Jackson was editor-in-chief of the University student weekly Silver and Gold, house manager of the Sigma Nu chapter house on campus, president of the Colorado Intercollegiate Oratorical Association, secretary of the Y.M.C.A., officer and executive committee member on the University Alumni Association, financial secretary of the University Oratorical and Debating Association, and manager of the University Glee and Mandolin Clubs.

The parents of Thomas H. Jackson, Jr., University of Colorado law school class of 1907, were Dr. Edward Jackson, a Denver opthalmologist, and Jennie L. Price. Dr. Jackson wrote his son a note on 25 July 1905 which is in this scrapbook.

Born at West Chester, PA., on 12 June 1883, Thomas Hoopes Jackson entered the Denver Manual Training High School in 1898, where he was a leader in school activities. He entered the University of Colorado in 1900, and was active with the Athletic Association, Debating Club, Silver and Gold publication, Y.M.C.A., Literary Society, Oaxoaca Club, Oratorical Assn., baseball team, etc. He was a charter member of the Gamma Kappa chapter of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Jackson received his B.A. degree from the Univ. of Colorado on 8 June 1904, and was president of the freshman law class in 1904-1905. He continued to be active in oratorical, fraternity, university student weekly, Y.M.C.A., baseball and other associations at the University while he was a student there.
