Edna Andrade, b. 1917, Painter of Philadelphia, Pa.

Painter; Philadelphia, Pa.
Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 1933-1937, receiving a B.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1937. She won Cresson Scholarships to travel to Europe in 1936 and 1937. In 1941, she married architect C. Preston Andrade. During WWII she worked under Eero Saarinen in the office of Strategic Services. After the war, Andrade returned to Philadelphia, where she taught at the Philadelphia College of Art between 1958 and her retirement in 1982. Andrade was a participant in the "op art" movement of the 1960s.
