Thomas was a Santa Fe dentist and Republican Territorial Secretary.
Benjamin Morris Thomas was born in Warren county, Indiana in 1843. He trained as a dentist at Wasbash college and married Esther Bradley. In New Mexico he served as an employee of the United States Indian Bureau in the capacity of Indian agent (1872-1883) and was appointed Registrar for the United States Land Office in Tucson, Arizona (1883- 1888). In 1888 Thomas returned to Santa Fe, New Mexico to practice dentistry. He served as the New Mexico Territorial Secretary from 1888 until his death in 1892. His son Bradley Morris Thomas practiced law in Santa Fe and married Bess Gillis in 1916.
