Biographical History

Noted government official and judge.

Arthur K. Delaney was born in Fort Ticonderoga, N.Y. on Jan. 10, 1841, studied law and later admitted to the bar in 1865. He served as U.S. collector of customs at Sitka, 1887-1890 and then practiced law in Juneau. From 1895-1897 he was U.S. district judge for Alaska at Sika and in 1900 became Juneau's first mayor. He and his wife, Anna, had two children, Kathryn and Alma. Delaney died in Paso Robles, Calif. on Jan. 2, 1905.
