Biographical History
British architect.
George Edmund Street was one of the best and most influential British architects of his time, playing a key role in the development of Gothic Revival. After early lessons in drawing, he worked in the offices of architect George Gilbert Scott for five years where he learned much about architecture. Street built or restored many churches throughout England, and also worked on some secular projects, culminating in his design of the Law Courts. Many trips to the continent influenced his work. He also wrote influentially about architecture, and, as a member of the Royal Academy, taught.
