Biographical History

On 14-16 June 1943, 7 unions (Amalgamated Engineering Union, Australasian Society of Engineers, Blacksmiths' Society Boilermakers' Society, the Federated Ironworkers Association, Federated Moulders' (Metals) Union and the Sheet Metal Workers' Union) held a conference and decided to form the Metal Trades Federation and to ask the Federated Engine Drivers and Firemen's Association to become a member. The governing body of the Federation is a council of 2 representatives from each of the unions comprising the Federation. An executive committee is elected from the Council members.
