Biographical History

Charles C. Noble was a United States (U.S.) Army officer who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) in 1940. He was given various assignments and commands in military engineering units both during and after World War II (WWII). In 1966, he was appointed director of the Southeast Asia Construction Group and in 1967, he became Deputy Director Civil Works to Comprehensive Basin Planning, Office of the Chief of Engineers. He was appointed Engineer, U.S. Army Europe & Seventh (7th) Army in 1969 and in 1970 became the commanding general of the Engineer Command, Vietnam. He oversaw many construction projects during this period of the Vietnamese War. General Noble retired from military service in 1974.

Charles C. Noble was an United States (US) Army military engineer. After graduation from US Military Academy he was assigned to various engineer battalions and was appointed executive officer of the Manhattan District at Oak Ridge and Army executive secretary to the Military Liaison Committee of the Atomic Energy Committee. After graduating from the Army War College and National War College he continued his engineering career as colonel, Deputy Engineer, New York Engineer District; commander of the 151st Engineer Combat Group and served in other engineer units. He later became brigadier-general engineer of the 8th and 7th Armies; director, Southeast Asia Construction Group; deputy director of Civil Works, Office of the Chief of Engineers; Engineer, Engineer Command-Vietnam; major-general, Engineer Division, Lower Mississippi Valley and then was named president of the Mississippi River Commission.
