The first meeting of the Oh'le Shem Associaton was held on Oct. 8. 1895. The purpose of the society was the study of Hebrew language and literature in particular, and the study of Semitic languages in general. The secretary of the society was N.T. London. The letterhead of the 1890's reads: Oh'le Shem Association, for the advancement of the study of Semitic literatures, 212 E. 112 Street, New York.
