Entered active Reserves in 1916. Served in World War I and II to include 302nd Cavalry, 2nd Armored Division and the 13th Armored Division. Was appointed the first Commander of the first Commando Unit organized in a combat division of the United States.

Herbert Hamilton Frost, 84, of Orem, died suddenly of heart complications February 15, 2001. He was born January 22, 1917 in New York City, the son of Herbert and Mary Anne Hamilton Frost. He married Elinor Critchlow on August 25, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. He received a B.A. and M.S. degrees from Brigham Young University and a Ph. D. from Cornell University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, then taught at Ricks College. An Orem resident since 1960, he taught in the Zoology Department at Brigham Young University for 22 years. Since his retirement he has volunteered in the BYU Archives and the Monte L. Bean Museum. Always active in the LDS church, he held various callings including LDS Group Leader in WW II, branch president, bishop, high counselor, stake clerk, temple worker, and counselor in three bishoprics. He and his wife served in the Florida, Fort Lauderdale Mission. He has always enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting, traveling, reading, bird-watching, being with family members, and giving his "all" in church activities. He was secretary of the Provo-Jordan River Parkway Foundation, Provo Trails Committee member, and Mt. Timpanogos Audubon Society member. He was also a member of the Riverway Enhancement Advisory Council and the Orem Kiwanis club. He had wonderful associations with his friends and neighbors.
